Hello dear Yogis,

Wishing you all a blessed Leo Season. This Leo Season features a total solar eclipse in the sign of Leo. An eclipse can force change and deliver breakthroughs. As it’s an unstable time, grounding work is highly recommended. The yoga mat is where we train ourselves to consistently find unshakable stability within ourselves no matter what changes are happening around us. Grounding can take the form of meditation, calming breathwork and seated postures such as Sukasana (Easy Seat), Dandasana (Staff Pose) and Paschimotasana (Seated Forward Fold). Balancing poses can also serve as a metaphor for teaching ourselves to constantly keep re-finding stability even when life gets a little unpredictable.

As always I invite you to read the Yogascope for your rising sign if you know it.

Leo

Leo is ruled by the Sun in modern astrology. The Sun represents the conscious mind, so during Leo Season, it’s a time to be conscious of what we want to create. Leo is a Fire sign and in yoga, the element of Fire sits in Manipura Chakra (the Solar Plexus) – this is the energy point that connects us to power, courage and self-belief. Fire is the element that represents growing and evolving rather than remaining stuck and stagnant.

This Leo season is particularly evolutionary as the Sun in Leo opposes Pluto (planet of transformation) in Aquarius and we have an eclipse in Leo. Both of these energies imply necessary but uncomfortable change, so use your yoga practice as a preparatory tool.  Twists and core work are the physical way to access Manipura Chakra and in order to really embrace the energy of change in your practice working with challenging transitions.

During Leo season we work with solar energy by practicing Suriya Namaskar. We work with Anahata (Heart Chakra) because Leo rules the heart. Leo is also the sign of creativity, joy and self-expression so it’s a time for creative sequencing, dance flows and Fire or Air Mandala flows. It can also be a time to attend a cacao ceremony as cacao is known as “heart medicine”.

Full Moon in Aquarius – Wednesday 29th July 15:35 (bst)

This is set to be a very powerful Full Moon because the Moon will be sitting with Pluto in the sign of Aquarius and the Sun will be sitting with Jupiter in the sign of Leo. If you have been waiting for a huge change, whether that’s personally or globally, this could be the moment. However, if you have been longing for everything to remain exactly the same, you should prepare yourself for a rude awakening. This Moon is clearing us out, so that when the eclipse arrives on New Moon in Leo we are not holding on to any excess baggage.

This Full Moon is inviting us to evolve and it’s helping us to break free from situations that we have outgrown but may be reluctant to leave.

Combine grounding poses with flexibility work in order to feel into the embodied sense of not allowing instability to uproot you. This could look like balancing poses such as Natrajasana (Dancer’s Pose) and Ardha Chandra Chapsasana (Bound Half Moon) use props if necessary. Or it could look like Heart Openers that begin lying on the belly such as Dhanurasana (bow pose) and Shalabasana (Locust Pose).

Ritual

As Aquarius is the sign of community, it is a time to gather with friends. This is a good moment for activism and charity work. Get together to make an offering to a charity that you collectively support (it doesn’t have to be monetary). This action sits with the spirit of positive collective change we are hoping for this Full Moon.

New Moon Solar Eclipse in Leo – Wednesday 12th Aug 18:36 (bst)

A Solar Eclipse is always a significant moment in the Lunar Cycle. Eclipses are always catalysts for change and this is a total eclipse in the sign of Leo. The Sun rules Leo and it is The Sun that will be eclipsed meaning that we can be sure of a potent paradigm shift. This eclipse could offer us a change in the power structure and sow the seeds for meaningful global change.

When there is a Solar Eclipse it’s advisable to slow down and pause. This is a really potent time for meditation, Yoga Nidra, Restorative Yoga and embodied somatic flows.

Ritual

Around the time of a Solar Eclipse, the best rituals are simple and passive. It’s not about asking for what you want, it’s about being open to receiving wisdom from the subconscious relating to what you actually need. With that in mind, perform a simple ritual that will allow the wisdom to flow through you. This could look like lighting a candle, meditating with a crystal in your hand or practicing calming breathwork.

YOUR NEW MOON IN CANCER YOGASCOPES

Leo (July 23 – August 22)

This is such a potent time, in fact, your life may change rapidly and unexpectedly over the course of the summer. This is because there is a Solar Eclipse in your sign which also means that the South Node has entered your sign. The Nodes of the Moon are sometimes called the Nodes of Destiny so to have the South Node in your sign represents a time when you may experience sudden shifts that occur with the intention of realigning you with your highest path. Anything that is out of alignment for you (anything keeping you small, stuck or feeling powerless) could be forcibly removed from your life. To add to that Jupiter (luck and expansion) has entered your sign for a year long stay and Jupiter amplifies any energy it connects to. Plus Pluto is in your opposite sign of Aquarius. The melding of these energies sets the scene for tremendous trajectory shifting breakthroughs.

There are two key yogic concepts that you are invited to embrace this Leo Season, the first one is Aprigraha (which translates to “non grasping”) and the second is Ishavara Pranidhana (surrender to your higher self/ a higher power). You are being asked to find the courage to gracefully let go. You can embody this energy in the Yoga Practice by holding deep restorative twists such as Adho Mukha Jathara Parivatanasana (Downward Facing Twist) for about eight minutes on each side

The tighter you cling to old ways the harder the evolution will be. Trust that on the flip side of all this change there is greater stability than you could have dreamed of.

Tarot Card: King of Wands – Dynamic and powerful, you are charismatic and in charge.

Virgo (August 23 – September 22)

This Leo Season sends you on a deep spiritual journey and your intuitive abilities will be significantly amplified. No one will be able to read the room better than you can. This is because Jupiter (luck and expansion) is in your Twelfth House which is the house of psychic powers and celestial visions. Jupiter expands everything it touches and for the next year, it’s in touch with your deepest inner realms, your most intuitive self. The Solar Eclipse is also happening here and the eclipse will furnish you with a psychic vision that will change your path in some meaningful way. Plus there is a flow of energy between the Sun and Saturn (lessons and boundaries) which suggests that if you create a safe container for your spiritual downloads you will be able to access ancestral wisdom that will propel you forwards in new and exciting ways.

Creating a safe container for spiritual downloads means sustaining a meditation practice. Your Asana practice should be a style that offers you access to a deep meditative state, this is different for everyone. Experiment with Hatha, Restorative and slow mindful flows. Take long savasanas.

Tarot Card: Queen of Cups – Intuitive and emotionally intelligent, you are tapped into the unseen forces.

Libra (September 23 – October 23)

Your creativity is being amplified this Leo Season and you are being called to reconnect to joy and playfulness. You may experience seismic shifts in the groups that you are a part of and there is a suggestion that you may have to leave a community or you may decide to join a new one. Love is still demanding boundaries from you, don’t keep giving all of yourself to a one to one relationship because that energy is not sustainable.

On August 6th, your ruler Venus will enter Libra and this is good news for you as the world will start to look a little more beautiful and a little more harmonious. On the New Moon Solar Eclipse in Leo (12th Aug) Venus will make a link to the New Moon and to Uranus and this could initiate an exciting new creative project.

On the yoga mat, work with the playful energy that is on offer to you. Find practices that bring a sense of fun to the physicality of the practice. Try a new class and a new style as you will be seeking novelty at this time. Your sense of beauty is heightened so opt for classes with great playlists and good vibes – place your favourite crystal by your mat.

Tarot Card: Page of Pentacles – A small financial offer may come to you, don’t dismiss it because it’s small – it has more potential than you think.

Scorpio (October 24 – November 21)

Your work life is sure to alter over the course of the next year and a half as the Nodes shift into Leo and Virgo. You are being called to step into a leadership role but first you will have to go through a series of initiations. Your public presence is being amplified and you may even find yourself on television, in the press, or going viral but you are also being asked to change the way you lead and to become more collaborative in some essential way. With all this happening in your working life, it’s important to maintain daily routines and habits that contribute to your health and wellbeing.

On the mat work with Manipura Chakra to amplify your power, courage and self-belief and to shake off any imposter syndrome because this is your time to lead with integrity. Wear yellow, practice Plank and Boat Pose (Navasana). Maintain a regular practice as your daily habits are integral to your success.

Tarot Card: Seven of Pentacles – Your hard work will pay off but it may take some time,

Sagittarius (November 22 – December 21)

Pack your suitcase because with a Solar Eclipse happening in your 9th House of travel and knowledge, you might be going on an unexpected trip. You may also be suddenly called to sign up for a course or to educate yourself in some new and meaningful way. Your closest relationships will be the source of surprise revelations and great excitement. It could be that someone invites you on an unmissable adventure. With Venus (beauty and love) entering Libra on the 6th Aug your community will be a source of joy and pleasure for you. Create daily habits and routines in order to overcome creative blocks and stagnation.

Jupiter is your ruling planet and because it moves through your 9th house it augurs travel and adventure. Your yoga mat is a place to work with the theme of expansion. Bow Pose (Dhanurasana) can physically mimic the archer’s bow as you expand your heart towards new territories. Opt for practices where you play with a sense of opening your heart to new possibilities.

Tarot Card: Four of Cups – It’s good to pause and enjoy what you already have but stay open to new opportunities.

Capricorn (December 22 – January 19)

Leo Season brings with it the theme of rebirth and deep psychological analysis. You are in the mood to understand yourself on a much deeper level and may even be seeking talking therapies at this time. You are ready to break free of any situations which make you feel restricted and hampers your personal evolution. Your finances also play an important role in this month’s astrology and it is worth taking a moment to do a financial check in. There might be an unexpected financial situation which could work out in your favour if you have done the sums and are clued in.

When Venus shifts into Libra (6th Aug) work will start to feel more harmonious and enjoyable and you might find that you enjoy work more than being at home as Saturn (structure and boundaries) is in your 4th House and this is the house that relates to home life, so there may be some tedious responsibilities at home. Know that if you attend to these responsibilities, it will pay off both on the home and work front.

You need yoga that goes deep this Leo Season. Which practices speak to your soul and put you in dialogue with the most hidden parts of yourself? An Earth centred Yin practice could give you the tools to do that reflective work from a safe place. Somatic movement and Mindful Flow could also be styles that speak to you. Try a long hold in Pigeon (Kapotasana) with a bolster or Yogi Squat (Malasana).

Tarot Card: Ace of Wands – You are raring to start something new. Whatever this project is, make sure you nurture the energy, because it is the spark of something magnificent.

Aquarius (January 20 – February 18)

To be an Aquarius at this time is to be entrusted with a great responsibility because for the next year and half you are leading the collective evolution. This is an evolution that asks us to become a more community minded and egalitarian society and this is something that speaks to your Aquarian heart. The North Node is in your sign and it’s making a link to Pluto (planet of transformation) in your 1st House (identity) so you have no choice but to be your most authentic self and to let that authenticity be a catalyst for meaningful change in the world.

The Solar Eclipse in Leo (12th Aug) happens in your house of one to one relationships and it may invite you to see a loved one in a completely new light, you may also undergo a radical style change which could surprise your loved ones. Once Venus shifts into Libra (6th Aug) a holiday could be an opportunity to connect to beauty.

Your yoga practice is a place to allow your uniqueness to shine through so opt for practice that allows you to be yourself. Mysore Ashtanga could pique your interest at this time because it combines the discipline of your traditional ruler Saturn (structure and boundaries) with the freedom of your modern ruler Uranus (freedom and rebellion).

*Mysore Ashtanga can now be practised at MoreYoga Elephant and Castle on Thursday Morning

Tarot Card: The World – As the North Node enters your sign, you enter a new cycle. Reflect on what you want from this new and significant chapter.

Pisces (February 19 – March 20)

Leo Season offers you no choice but to shake up your routines, if you have been doing things the same way for a long time, you are now being forced to pivot. Take this as a positive as, if you are really honest with yourself, you were already starting to get bored. Don’t let financial restrictions get you down, use your imagination when it comes to budgeting and you will be surprised at what you can achieve. On the Full Moon in Aquarius (29th July) you might receive an important message in the form of a dream so put a pen and paper by your bedside table.

On the yoga mat novelty is important. Try a new style of yoga or experiment with a new pose. With Jupiter moving through your 6th house (daily routines) for the next year, you have the tenacity to truly commit to something.

Tarot Card: Page of Cups – Your imagination is potent and your ideas are plentiful. Write, paint, dance.

Aries (March 21 – April 19)

When the Full Moon arrives (29th July) you are given an opportunity to leave a group or step away from a collaborative project that no longer speaks to you. Take time to intentionally bring to mind who that might be because when you walk away you are creating space for an important creative project that may occupy your time for the next year or so. You probably don’t even know what that creative project is yet but that’s because it will be revealed to you around the time of the solar eclipse New Moon in Leo (12th July). You may also receive important communications that shift your trajectory and awaken you to new possibilities. When Venus enters Libra (6th Aug) your romantic and one to one relationships will start to feel more harmonious but you will be limiting who can have access to your time and energy.

Creativity is key with Jupiter (luck and expansion) moving through your 5th House. Opt for practices that evoke a feeling of childlike joy. A practice with a lot of yang energy such as a handstand workshop may speak to you at this time but if inversions are not your bag you can find yang energy in a dynamic flow or in certain breathworks such as Kapalbhati (short sharp exhale, passive inhale) or Bhastrika (forceful inhale, forceful exhale).

Tarot Card: Ten of Cups – A moment of emotional fulfilment is coming, a celebration, a party, a gathering. Let yourself embrace the joy.

Taurus: April 20 – May 20

Around the Full Moon in Aquarius (29th July) a work project comes to an end. You are in need of more time at home so it might be time to divest yourself of some responsibilities in the workplace. Sudden positive financial shifts may offer you the space to devote more time to retreat and nurture. With Pluto moving through your 10th house (career) you are craving more power and autonomy at work and you may even shift towards working from home.

When your ruler, Venus enters Libra (6th Aug) your daily routines and the small details around them can be a source of much joy so take time to notice the little daily rituals that enhance your wellbeing.

Work with poses and practices that invite you to feel at home in your body. This could be a long hold in Supta Badha Konasana (Recline Butterfly) or a leisurely yin flow. Try somatic practices and Mindful Flows as you.

Tarot Card: The Moon – This card comes up when you to take a moment to clear your mind and reattune to your desires.

Gemini (May 21 – June 21)

You have been surprising everyone lately and that isn’t set to end anytime soon. Others find you exciting and unpredictable and you like it that way. The Solar Eclipse in Leo may bring sudden recognition and exciting communications that pave the way for creating a new network of allies. Your mind is extremely sharp and no one can beat you in a battle of wits so make sure to keep your brain well exercised so that you don’t get bored. When Venus enters Libra (6th Aug) make time for some creative play.

Your mind is super active so make your yoga practice a place where you can separate the chatter from the intellect. Alternate Nostril Breathing (Nadi Shodhana) will offer you the chance to calm the mind so that you can clearly capture all of your amazing ideas. Opt for a slow steady practice, keep it simple, hone the discipline of linking breath with movement.

Tarot Card: The Sun – Unadulterated joy. Childlike wonder. Something to be joyful about is coming your way.

Cancer (June 22 – July 22)

There is a quote by Anais Nin that came to me when I was writing your Leo Season Yogascope “I have no fear of depths and a great fear of shallow living.” This Leo Season you want to be deep, meditative, spiritual. The solar eclipse happens in your 2nd House (material possessions) so you may be forced to let go of something tangible in order to receive something beyond monetary value. There is a chance to receive recognition at work but it comes through discipline, not through luck. When Venus enters Libra (6th Aug) take time to retreat from the world and let your home be your sanctuary.

Yoga calls on you to get to know yourself by moving through the physical practice. Pay attention to sensations, notice how you talk to yourself in the poses. Can you meet yourself with more love, more compassion, more patience? There is a principle in yoga known as Avidya (it means ignorance) – it’s one of the Kleshas (the five causes of suffering). We suffer when we don’t understand ourselves and this Leo Season asks you to know and love yourself. Learn to do it on the mat so that you can learn to do it off the mat as well.

Tarot Card: Four of Swords – Rest your weary mind and take a moment to find stillness.
