Hello dear Yogis,
Wishing you all a blessed Leo Season. This Leo Season features a total solar eclipse in the sign of Leo. An eclipse can force change and deliver breakthroughs. As it’s an unstable time, grounding work is highly recommended. The yoga mat is where we train ourselves to consistently find unshakable stability within ourselves no matter what changes are happening around us. Grounding can take the form of meditation, calming breathwork and seated postures such as Sukasana (Easy Seat), Dandasana (Staff Pose) and Paschimotasana (Seated Forward Fold). Balancing poses can also serve as a metaphor for teaching ourselves to constantly keep re-finding stability even when life gets a little unpredictable.
As always I invite you to read the Yogascope for your rising sign if you know it.

Leo
Leo is ruled by the Sun in modern astrology. The Sun represents the conscious mind, so during Leo Season, it’s a time to be conscious of what we want to create. Leo is a Fire sign and in yoga, the element of Fire sits in Manipura Chakra (the Solar Plexus) – this is the energy point that connects us to power, courage and self-belief. Fire is the element that represents growing and evolving rather than remaining stuck and stagnant.
This Leo season is particularly evolutionary as the Sun in Leo opposes Pluto (planet of transformation) in Aquarius and we have an eclipse in Leo. Both of these energies imply necessary but uncomfortable change, so use your yoga practice as a preparatory tool. Twists and core work are the physical way to access Manipura Chakra and in order to really embrace the energy of change in your practice working with challenging transitions.
During Leo season we work with solar energy by practicing Suriya Namaskar. We work with Anahata (Heart Chakra) because Leo rules the heart. Leo is also the sign of creativity, joy and self-expression so it’s a time for creative sequencing, dance flows and Fire or Air Mandala flows. It can also be a time to attend a cacao ceremony as cacao is known as “heart medicine”.
Full Moon in Aquarius – Wednesday 29th July 15:35 (bst)
This is set to be a very powerful Full Moon because the Moon will be sitting with Pluto in the sign of Aquarius and the Sun will be sitting with Jupiter in the sign of Leo. If you have been waiting for a huge change, whether that’s personally or globally, this could be the moment. However, if you have been longing for everything to remain exactly the same, you should prepare yourself for a rude awakening. This Moon is clearing us out, so that when the eclipse arrives on New Moon in Leo we are not holding on to any excess baggage.
This Full Moon is inviting us to evolve and it’s helping us to break free from situations that we have outgrown but may be reluctant to leave.
Combine grounding poses with flexibility work in order to feel into the embodied sense of not allowing instability to uproot you. This could look like balancing poses such as Natrajasana (Dancer’s Pose) and Ardha Chandra Chapsasana (Bound Half Moon) use props if necessary. Or it could look like Heart Openers that begin lying on the belly such as Dhanurasana (bow pose) and Shalabasana (Locust Pose).
Ritual
As Aquarius is the sign of community, it is a time to gather with friends. This is a good moment for activism and charity work. Get together to make an offering to a charity that you collectively support (it doesn’t have to be monetary). This action sits with the spirit of positive collective change we are hoping for this Full Moon.
New Moon Solar Eclipse in Leo – Wednesday 12th Aug 18:36 (bst)
A Solar Eclipse is always a significant moment in the Lunar Cycle. Eclipses are always catalysts for change and this is a total eclipse in the sign of Leo. The Sun rules Leo and it is The Sun that will be eclipsed meaning that we can be sure of a potent paradigm shift. This eclipse could offer us a change in the power structure and sow the seeds for meaningful global change.
When there is a Solar Eclipse it’s advisable to slow down and pause. This is a really potent time for meditation, Yoga Nidra, Restorative Yoga and embodied somatic flows.
Ritual
Around the time of a Solar Eclipse, the best rituals are simple and passive. It’s not about asking for what you want, it’s about being open to receiving wisdom from the subconscious relating to what you actually need. With that in mind, perform a simple ritual that will allow the wisdom to flow through you. This could look like lighting a candle, meditating with a crystal in your hand or practicing calming breathwork.
