There are suggestions for New and Full Moon practices, as well as a personalised Yogascopes for each sign. I always recommend that you read the Yogascope for your Rising Sign. You can find your Rising Sign (also called the Ascendant)  by putting your date and time of birth into the birth chart generator on Astro.com

Yoga and Astrology have been a source of healing and comfort in my life and these Yogascopes invite you to deepen your own connection with the stars and to bring the cosmos onto your yoga mat.

This month I have pulled a Herbal Astrology card for each sign. If the message resonates, I invite you to research more into your herb and its symbolism.

If you’d like to bring more celestial magic into your yoga practice come and practice with me at MoreYoga.

Warmest wishes,

Amanda

Gemini Season

Gemini is an Air sign, it’s ruled by Mercury – the planet of communication, the messenger of the gods. The symbol for the Gemini is The Twins – symbolic of Gemini’s dual nature – one side of Gemini is witty and sociable and the other side of Gemini is intellectual and introspective.

Yoga for Gemini Season

Gemini Season is a time to work with the Throat Chakra (Vishuddhi Chakra) as this is the energy point in the body that helps to invite in clear communication.

On the mat, it’s about using the practice to help manage the mind. It’s a good time to reflect on Yoga Sutra 1.2

Yogas chitta vritti nirodha – Yoga calms the fluctuations of the mind.

That’s because the element of Air relates to the mind. Opt for playful and sociable practices that help to balance the mind.

Recently, Uranus (the Great Awakener) entered Gemini and it will move through Gemini for the next seven years. When Uranus enters a sign it creates instability so this Gemini Season is also a time to work with the Root Chakra (Mulhadara).

Energy Work: Wear the colour indigo blue, burn blue candles, place a feather on your altar.

Mantra: HAM

Seed Vowel: Eeeee (as in “see”)

Affirmations: “I express myself clearly”, “I am the most authentic version of myself”, “I speak with clarity and kindness”, “I use my voice to create a better world”

Poses: Upward Facing Dog (Urdhva Mukha Savasana), Plow Pose (Halasana), Puppy Pose (Anahat Asana), Fish Pose (Matsyasana).

Breathwork: Lion’s Breath (to balance the throat chakra), Skull Shining Breath (to clear the mind)

31st May – Full Moon in Sagittarius 09:44 BST (A Blue Moon)

A Blue Moon happens when we have two Full Moons in the same calendar month. We had a Full Moon in Scorpio on 1st May and the Full Moon in Sagittarius falls on 31st May, making it a rare and auspicious Blue Moon.

A Full Moon in Sagittarius invites us to release any blocks that prevent us from living our lives with an open mind and a curious heart. This Full Moon is ruled by Jupiter (planet of luck and expansion) and on the day of the Full Moon Jupiter sits with Venus in the sign of Cancer so this is a particularly powerful moon if you want to release blocks around love, nurture and connection.

Chakras: Sacral Chakra, Heart Chakra, Third Eye Chakra

Element: Fire

Planetary Rulers: Jupiter (Luck, expansion, exploration and travel)

Herbs: Dandelion, Lemon Balm, Sage, Juniper

Themes: Awakening, Learning, Love

On the yoga mat: Opt for expansive practices that connect with the hips and the heart.  Postures that use props to combine support and deep release are perfect for this Full Moon. Try meditation that connects to the Third Eye Chakra or Astral Travel meditations.

Journal Prompt: What journeys do I want to take for my education, wellbeing and spiritual growth?

Ritual: Light and a purple candle and burn your favourite incense. Meditate on the candle flame for five minutes. Draw or write down any visions you have during the meditation.

15th June – New Moon in Gemini 03:53 BST

On this New Moon in Gemini we are working with the Root Chakra (Muladhara) because Uranus is in Gemini and we will all require extra grounding. We also work with the Throat Chakra (Vishuddhi) , the traditional chakra associated with Gemini. New Moon in Gemini is a great time to practice in community and find a class where the music is a big part of the practice. This New Moon is ruled by Mercury and on the day of the New Moon Mercury will be in the sign of Cancer sitting with Jupiter. This New Moon supports nurture, connection and emotional honesty.

Chakras: Root Chakra, Throat Chakra

Element: Air

Planetary Ruler: Mercury

Herbs: Cedar, Geranium, Lavender

Themes: Innovation, Communication, Being a messenger of love.

On the yoga mat: Opt for slow and mindful flows that ground deeply whilst supporting the flow of energy between the heart and throat. Practice chants and mantras.

Journal Prompt: How can I use my voice to bring more love into my life and to support and uplift others?

Ritual: Find a song with lyrics that support your intentions. Play that song while you write down your New Moon intentions.

YOUR GEMINI SEASON YOGASCOPES

Gemini (May 21 – June 21)

Gemini season begins with a revelation that could feel like a bolt from the blue. Pay attention to any sudden ideas you have around the 22nd June. It might also be a day when you adopt a radical new style. The Full Moon in Sagittarius (31st May) asks you to take a closer look at your one to one relationships. You might be saying goodbye to a person or situation that hampers your self expression. When your ruler Mercury enters Cancer you will be in the mood for introspection and you’ll only want to connect with people who make you feel secure and comfortable. June 9th is a great day to invest in yourself, buy an outfit or have a beauty treatment so that when the New Moon arrives in your sign on 15th May you will be feeling optimistic, attractive and empowered.

On the Mat: Particularly towards the start of Gemini Season grounding is imperative. Work with poses that help you to feel stable and steady try a Seated Forward Fold (Paschimottanasana), a Deep Yogi Squat (Malasana) or spend a luxurious 20 minutes in a restorative Child’s Pose (Balasana). Around the time of the New Moon you’ll want energising practices that connect to the Heart Chakra and the Throat Chakra with poses such as Camel (Ustrasana) and Locust (Shalabasana). Box breathing can be a supportive Pranayama at this time (inhale 4 count, hold in 4 count, exhale 4 count, hold out 4 count).

Herbal Astrology: Motherwort = Strength : Essence of creation, inner trust. Find new ways to facilitate creativity that honor and reveal your passions and strength.

Cancer (June 22 – July 22)

This is your season for magic and enchantment because Jupiter (planet of luck and expansion) is in your sign. For the past year it’s been sending you on a deep inquiry into what nurtures you and what nourishes you. It may have been confronting at times but you learned a lot about yourself. Now Gemini Season offers you a peak experience related to themes of love and nurture. Mark the 9th June in your diary because it’s sure to be a special day. By the time of the New Moon in Gemini you will be feeling renewed both spiritually and emotionally.

On the Mat: This Gemini Season is all about love and nurture so opt for practices that make you feel safe, held and loved. As Venus and Jupiter are meeting in the sign of Cancer  – it’s a great time to attend a cacao ceremony – cacao is heart medicine.  Opt for poses where the heart space feels open and supported. Spend Twenty minutes in Fish Pose (Matsayasana) on a bolster, or try this sweet breathwork exercise to nourish your heart and protect your energy – from seated: inhale extend your arms wide and as you exhale give yourself a massive hug – stay in the hug tuck chin to chest, take a big inhale and exhale with a “HA” sound.

The New Moon (15th June)  is a time when your intuition is strong so it’s important to take time to meditate in order to bring information through from the subconscious.

On the Mat: Opt for practices that take you into a deep meditative state. Restorative Yoga can be extremely powerful at this time as it brings information through from the subconscious to the conscious mind. To quench your desire to learn, try a class with a philosophical element. This is a month when you must give yourself permission to feel at all and open yourself up to connection.

On the Mat: This is a month to embrace deep feelings and to keep an open heart, so find poses that support the heart – this could look like a long-hold supported Fish Pose (Matsayasana) on a bolster or supported Child’s Pose (Balasana). On the Mat: Your mind is particularly active this month so organise your thoughts through meditation and restorative yoga. Work with the link between the throat and the Third Eye (Ajna Chakra) to bring lucidity to your new ideas. You can work with this energy channel through Alternate Nostril Breathing (Nadi Shodhana Pranayama). Pose wise inversions can be a good way to access this channel. A gentle supported Fish Pose (Matsayasana) will also help to connect your voice and intuition.
