August opens with a cosmic checkpoint—inviting us to pause, reflect, and realign. A powerful Full Moon in Aquarius urges us to let go of old limitations and embrace radical, heart-led freedom. Mercury stations direct, Venus aligns with Jupiter in a rare blessing of love and abundance, and the New Moon in Virgo brings fresh focus and a call to service. With Mars entering Libra and Venus stepping into Leo by month’s end, we’re guided to balance discipline with delight, and purpose with pleasure. Let the stars illuminate your path—your Yogascope awaits.

1st August – First Quarter Moon

August begins with a First Quarter Moon in Scorpio, the First Quarter Moon is the mid-way point between New Moon and Full Moon. It’s the point in the lunar cycle when we might pause to take stock of our progress. It’s a day to practice a meditative slow flow or to spend a few minutes in meditation.

9th August – Full Moon in Aquarius

When the Full Moon arrives in the sign of Aquarius on Saturday 9th Aug we’ll be invited to awaken to new possibilities and bold new modes of thinking. The (paraphrased) quote that is being channelled to me for this Full Moon is by the writer Toni Morrison:

“If you want to fly, you have to give up the things that weigh you down.”

This is because Pluto (transformation), Uranus (the awakener) and Mars (drive and ambition) all make a harmonious link on the day of the Full Moon in the Air Signs.

It’s an invitation to free our minds of any limiting beliefs.

As always, the Full Moon is a day to do a letting go ritual and as the Full Moon is in the community-minded sign of Aquarius, it can be a good day to gather with a group of friends. Practice yoga that’s centred on the Heart Chakra to cultivate a sense of connection.

11th August – Mercury Direct in Leo

On 11th August Mercury (the planet of communication) finally stations direct in the sign of Leo. Whilst Mercury Retrograde does have a shadow period that lasts until 25th August, we can expect a slightly smoother flow of communication as the impact of this mischievous transit begins to lessen.

12th August – Venus Jupiter Conjunction in Cancer

On August 12th we have a beautiful meeting of Jupiter (luck and expansion) and Venus (beauty and love) in the sign of Cancer which focuses on themes of home, family and nurture. When Venus and Jupiter meet in the sky, it’s a precious moment to manifest love or to bring more beauty into our lives. It’s also a great day for pamper rituals such as massages, manicures and bubble baths.

22nd & 23rd August – Sun Enters Virgo & New Moon in Virgo

On 22nd August The Sun enters Virgo and the next day we have a New Moon in service-oriented Virgo. This is a good day to ask yourself the question “How can I be of service?” It’s a perfect day to practice yoga with a Sankalpa. Sankalpa roughly translates to “a vow to stay connected with the highest truth.” The sign of Virgo is ruled by Mercury which links to the Throat Chakra and to the idea of being in service to the highest truth. Practice yoga with a focus on the Throat Chakra by practicing poses such as Matsyasana (fish pose), Dhanurasana (bow pose).

25th August – Venus Enters Leo

On 25th August Venus (the planet of beauty and love) enters the sign of Leo. As Leo is a sign focused on creativity and on taking centre-stage this can be a time to embrace your creative side or to allow yourself to enjoy the spotlight. It’s a good time to take a starring role in your own social media content, especially as on the same day, Mercury (the planet of communication) finally exits the retrograde shadow period – promising that communication will flow more smoothly.

Aries

The big theme for you, dear Aries, is still the meeting of Saturn (planet of boundaries and structure) and Neptune (imagination and the cosmic realm) in your sign. You are being called upon to implement a disciplined spiritual practice. This is a time to commit to regular meditation – when you do this you will be blessed with amazing clarity and the ability to make incisive decisions that will assure you future success. The Full Moon in Aquarius asks you to extricate yourself from any groups or friendships that are no longer supporting you and when Venus enters fellow Fire sign Leo on 25th August – you may find that your passions are reignited.

Spiritual practices to support you:

Continue to work with the Third Eye (Ajna Chakra) to sharpen your intuition. The yogic practice of Pratyahara (sensory withdrawal) can help you to tap into your inner wisdom, especially around the time of the New Moon. You can explore the principle of Pratyahara by moving through parts of a yoga practice with eyes closed or by trying Karnapidasana (snail pose) or Sasangasana (rabbit pose). Sharpen your intuition by practicing Trataka meditation (candle gazing) using a purple candle (as always, be careful when using candles).

Taurus

On August 12th your ruler Venus (the planet of beauty and love) makes a link with Jupiter (the planet of luck in expansion) in the sign of Cancer. To make the most of this rare cosmic event, it’s important to take some time around the Full Moon in Aquarius (9th Aug) to contemplate what is no longer serving you in with a specific focus on your work life. That way, when the new opportunities come your way on Aug 12th you will know what’s in alignment for you and you will be able to harness the energy to your advantage. When the New Moon arrives in fellow Earth sign Virgo on Aug 23rd you’ll feel a renewed sense of focus and clarity.

Spiritual practices to support you:

The Venus and Jupiter conjunction amplifies feelings of love and abundance. To make the most of this transit it can be beneficial to practice yoga with an emphasis on the Heart Chakra (Anahata) and the Sacral Chakra (Svadisthana). Poses that land in the hips and the heart help to embody the unique cosmic blend of Jupiter and Venus – try Eka Pada Rajakapotasana (pigeon pose) and Ustrasana (camel pose). Around the time of the New Moon in Virgo work on grounding  and cleansing – you can do this by smudging (burning your chosen herb e.g. mugwort, rosemary or lavender) or by taking a salt bath.

Gemini

August is a dynamic and potentially life changing month for you, dear Gemini, that’s because Uranus (the great awakener) has entered your sign and this month, around the time of the Full Moon (9th Aug), it links up with Pluto and Mars. The combination of these three planets working as a team in the Air signs has the power to activate seismic shifts in your reality. Take time on the New Moon to reflect on the changes that must be made and then trust and surrender to the process. With your ruler Mercury stationing direct on 11th Aug you will be moving rapidly forwards in a new direction before the month is out.

Spiritual practices to support you:

As your month is looking “potentially life changing” you must find stability within yourself to help stay calm and present. This means ensuring that you are amply grounded. You can cultivate grounding by working with the Root Chakra (Muladhara) in your yoga practice. Take a few minutes in Sukhasana (easy seat) and do a few rounds of box breathing (inhale 4, hold in 4, exhale 4, hold out 4) to support you through changes. Baddha Virabhadrasana (humble warrior) is also a great pose that serves as a metaphor for surrendering to your higher self and allowing things to unfold as they are meant to.

Cancer

Circle Aug 12th in your diary, dear Cancerian, as this is one of the most auspicious days of the month for you. Jupiter (luck and expansion) and Venus (beauty and love) are having a rare meeting in your sign. When Jupiter and Venus come together there is an amplification of loving nurturing energy – it’s a great day to do something really nice for yourself or for someone you care about. The Full Moon in Aquarius on 9th August asks you to check your finances and perhaps outline a budget. Whilst on 23rd Aug the New Moon in Virgo brings illuminating conversations that could inspire exciting new ideas.

Spiritual practices to support you:

With the meeting of Venus and Jupiter in your sign you might find that you are over-extending with regards to what you give to others so carve out some time for yourself around 12th Aug. It can be nice to practice with a rose quartz crystal at the top of your mat and you could place a little note to yourself under the mat with a list of five things you plan to do to nurture yourself. Work with the Solar Plexus chakra (Manipura) to give you the drive you need to tackle challenging admin tasks. You can harness the energy of Manipura by doing Kapalbhati (breath of fire – short sharp inhales through the nose, passive exhale) or by wearing the colour yellow.

Leo

With your ruler The Sun in your sign until 22nd Aug, you should be feeling optimistic and energised and when Mercury finally stations direct in Leo on Aug 11th you will be raring to advance full speed ahead with your plans. The Full Moon in your opposite sign – Aquarius – on 9th Aug offers you a chance to reflect on the past six months and calls on you to let go of any connections that no longer feel aligned. When Venus enters your sign on 25th August your charisma will overflow.

Spiritual practices to support you:

Make the most of The Sun being in your sign by practicing Sun Salutations. This is a simple and effective way to stay connected to your highest path as The Sun represents the conscious mind in astrology. By taking time to connect to The Sun on a regular basis through the salutations you will bring in more clarity and focus. On the Full Moon it can be beneficial to practice Yin yoga – the slow release poses are an embodied metaphor for shedding what no longer serves you so that when Mercury stations direct in Leo (11th Aug) and Venus enters your sign (25th Aug) – you’ll be ready to reap the benefits.

Virgo

The Sun enters your sign on 22nd Aug – heralding the start of your birthday month. The main emphasis this month is preparing for your own personal New Moon which arrives on 23rd August. This year we have a rare event – two New Moons in Virgo (the second one is on 21st Sept). This first New Moon won’t be eclipsed but the second one will. As eclipses often bring enforced changes and are said to be Moons for resting rather than manifesting – it is important to use this first New Moon to your advantage by setting aside time to envisage what you want for the year ahead. Things will get a little clearer when your ruler Mercury stations direct on 11th August.

Spiritual practices to support you:

As you are entering your birthday month, it’s important to prepare for the year ahead. Make sure to write a list of intentions on the New Moon. As an Earth sign, grounding is always important but it’s also important to make time for emotional balancing and self-expression. Work with the link between the Sacral Chakra (Svadhisthana) and Throat Chakra (Vishuddhi). Try chanting the mantras for these energy points whilst squatting in Malasana (yogi squat) – the mantra for the Sacral Chakra is “Vam” and the mantra for the Throat Chakra is “Ham”. Visualise a clear flow of energy between these two points.

Libra

Mars (the planet of drive and ambition) enters your sign on 6th Aug – this could give you a renewed boost of energy but you must be intentional as Mars struggles with Libra’s need for harmony above all. Take some time to write a to-do list and prioritise making things happen over people-pleasing. On this day, the stars are lining up in your favour but you must do the work as success won’t be given to you for free. Harness the power of the Full Moon in Aquarius to liberate yourself from communities or collaborations that are no longer in alignment for you. When the New Moon in Virgo arrives on 23rd August you’re being asked to trust your intuition with regards to new beginnings.

Spiritual practices to support you:

This is a month to clarify your goals. Resist the urge to get stuck weighing up your options and try to push yourself forward. With Mars in your sign, it can be helpful to work with the Solar Plexus Chakra (Manipura). Deep twists and dynamic practices will help to embody the energy of Mars and serve as a metaphor for being bold and decisive. Wear yellow and place a Citrine crystal at the top of your mat.

Scorpio

On the day of the Full Moon (9th Aug)  your traditional ruler Mars (the planet of drive and ambition) will make a link with Uranus (the awakener) and your modern ruler Pluto (transformation). As this event happens in the Air Signs this might be a day that you embrace a radical new idea and let go of something or someone that has been holding you back for a while. On 12th August Venus (beauty and love) and Jupiter (luck and expansion) meet in fellow Water Sign Cancer. This could be a day to set intentions around themes relating to love and beauty. When the New Moon in Virgo arrives on August 23rd make time to set intentions around calling in a community that will help to support your dreams.

Spiritual practices to support you:

As the element of Air plays a big part in this month’s astrology, breathwork can be very beneficial. Try three-part breathing (inhale into the belly – pause, inhale into the ribcage – pause, inhale into the collar bones – pause. Big exhale through the mouth). You can also make the mudra for the element of air (curl down your index finger and bring your thumb to the middle bone of your index finger – leave the other three fingers up). As Scorpio tends to mainly reside in the lower chakras and can be very instinctual this will lift you up to a more logical place which will be helpful when navigating this month’s astrology.

Sagittarius

As Uranus (the great awakener) has moved into your opposite sign Gemini for a seven-year stay, you might find that life gets a little more unpredictable – luckily for you, as a mutable fire sign – you thrive on change and excitement. When your ruler Jupiter makes a link with Venus in the sign of Cancer on 12th Aug you may find yourself feeling more sentimental than usual. The New Moon in fellow mutable sign Virgo on Aug 23rd will have you itching to make changes particularly with regards to your work life and routines that have become tired and stale – August is a month to shake things up.

Spiritual practices to support you:

You don’t need too much encouragement to change up the routine and this month you can really benefit from trying a new class or a different style of yoga. A change of routine will help to reinvigorate you and might even give you some new ideas. When the New Moon comes, slip a piece of paper with a list of things you want to bring in with regards to work underneath your mat. After the practice take the paper with you and pop it under your pillow – notice how your work life transforms for the better!

Capricorn

August offers you the opportunity to consolidate the hard work you’ve been doing recently. The New Moon in Virgo on 23rd Aug may bring an opportunity to share the fruits of your labours with the world and you may even be invited to travel for work or to give a talk, lecture or presentation. When Venus and Jupiter meet in your opposite sign Cancer on 12th Aug it might be worth reflecting on how you can make your home space more comfortable in order to create more supportive foundations for yourself. You’ve been busy pushing yourself towards success so don’t forget to make a little time to relax and spoil yourself.

Spiritual practices to support you:

This is a month to put the brakes on a little. Try practices that leave you feeling nourished and recharged. Restorative yoga and sound healing can help to replenish your energy reserves. When you set up your props for restorative yoga, reflect on what comfort really feels like to you. Try to take the comfort you cultivate on the mat with you into your home sphere. On the New Moon work with the Throat Chakra (Vishuddhi) by practicing Matsyasana (fish pose) or by doing a few rounds of Lion’s Breath (inhale through the nose – exhale stick out the tongue).

Aquarius

This is a big month for you, as August marks the half way point in your birthday year with a beautiful Full Moon occurring in your sign. This Full Moon asks you to reflect back to the New Moon in Aquarius on 29th Jan 2025. What have you achieved in the last six months and where are you ready to let go? This Full Moon supports original thinking, new ideas and innovations. On 11th August Mercury (the planet of communication) will station direct in your opposite sign of Leo giving fresh energy to old plans that may have seemed stalled or stuck. You are feeling ready to bring in some big changes and the astrology will give you the confidence to implement them.

Spiritual practices to support you:

As the Full Moon is your sign, it is more important than usual to do a ritual. It could be as simple as practicing yoga with a group of friends and setting an intention at the start of class to release what no longer serves you. Imagine that every time you inhale you’re drawing in fresh energy and every time you exhale you are clearing the obstacles in your path. Around the time of the Full Moon you could write down everything you want to let go of on a piece of paper and put it under your yoga mat when you practice, after the practice dispose of the paper by tearing it up and either burning it (safely) or flushing it down the loo.

Pisces

Dear Pisces, ensure you make time for magic and manifestation around the time of the Full Moon in Aquarius (9th August) – because a few days later on 12th Aug your Traditional ruler Jupiter makes a rare link with Venus (the planet of beauty and love) in fellow water sign Cancer. The Full Moon gives you delve into your subconscious desires and to emerge with a deeper understanding of what you truly desire so that when the powerful meeting of Jupiter and Venus happens on the 12th you can call in exactly what you wish for. This planetary alignment will imbue you with extra charm. It’s a great time for a beauty treatment or a little self-care.

Spiritual practices to support you:

This is a time to tune into your heart’s desires so it makes sense to do a heart-centred yoga practice. Link your Heart Chakra with your Third Eye Chakra to make the most of your intuitive gifts. You can do this by practicing Salamba Bhujangasana (sphinx) and visualising a channel between the heart centre and the space between the eyebrows. Chant the mantra “Yam” for the heart and “Aum” for the third eye. These practices will help to guide you intuitively forwards from a place of love.
