“And once the storm is over, you won’t remember how you made it through,

how you managed to survive.

You won’t even be sure, in fact, whether the storm is really over.

But one thing is certain. When you come out of the storm,

you won’t be the same person who walked in.”

Haruki Murakami

Callista came to Yoga over a decade ago having arrived back in London after spending 5 years training intensively as a classical pianist. Her mental health was in tatters and she had turned to various unhealthy ways of coping until a friend took her to a Yoga class…and with that, she was hooked! After pursuing a foundation training in Ashtanga and Rocket Yoga in 2014, Callista’s growing passion for Yoga, interest in neuroscience and neurology, coupled with her own issues with mental health lead her to train as a Yoga therapist which heavily informs how she guides and holds space in the practice. Classes with Callista are supportive, yet progressive with a trauma-informed approach. She invites students to feel into poses rather than create one-size-fits-all shapes. Breath awareness, functional breathing, and somatics are the main priorities in her classes. She also encourages experimental movement colouring outside the lines of the confines of traditional yoga poses. Callista has a profound desire to inspire and empower people to take charge of their mental, physical and spiritual health via the medium of Yoga.

CALLISTA OFFERS:

My main interest is helping others navigate their journey through mental health issues using the tools of Yoga Therapy. Essentially, it is not about being able to touch your toes or get your feet behind your head, but about developing greater resilience to deal with the challenges of life that inevitably we all face. The use of yogic practices such as pranayama, certain types of meditation, and asana are uniquely tailored to the client in order to alleviate whatever it is they are working with (whether it’s mental and/or physical health conditions), with a view to promoting the empowerment of the individual through shared practices and encouraging holistic well-being. As The Minded Institute (my training school) states, “No health presentation is too great nor too small. Yoga therapy sessions are client-led, client-focused, and compassion-focused. The client is the master of their journey with their yoga therapist being a knowledgeable accompanier on the journey towards health and healing.”
