MYTH #1:
YOU HAVE TO BE FLEXIBLE TO DO YOGA

This is something that worries lots of newbies! No, you don’t have to be flexible to start a yoga practice! The beauty is that once you start, your flexibility will increase gradually with a regular practice :

improving mobility, posture, & muscle coordination.

One of the best things about Yoga is that ANYONE can practise & benefit from it – no matter how flexible you are, what size you are, what race, what gender, or what religion.

MYTH #2:
YOU HAVE TO BE ABLE TO GO UPSIDE DOWN

When you are new to Yoga, you might be intimidated by the inversions, but rest assured, Yoga is about the connection between your mind & body. Inversions are not the be all & end all to a practice. As you build strength, flexibility & confidence you may move towards incorporating these into your practice if and when it feels right for you.

There are many different styles of Yoga to try in order to find which suits you & gives you what you need from your practice.

MYTH #3:
YOGA ISN’T FOR ME

Yoga is an ancient practice with roots dating back over 5,000 years to India. At its core, the practice of yoga seeks to unite the mind, body & spirit. In Sanskrit the word “yoga” itself means union or ‘yoke’, & the practice unites the physical postures (asanas), controlled breathing techniques (pranayama), meditation, & ethical principles into a system of wellbeing that can radically change your life.

Yoga is so much more than the pretzel shapes you’ve probably seen on social media, inspirational quotes & burning incense – yoga is a holistic practice that can improve your physical, mental & emotional health.

Yoga is for EVERYBODY & has so many benefits that everyone can benefit from:

  • Yoga is proven to help reduces stress, anxiety, & even depression
  • Yoga can help to make you feel calmer & to become more flexible physically
  • Yoga increases muscle strength & tone whilst also improving respiration, energy levels & vitality
  • Yoga can help to increase attention & concentration
  • Yoga can improve your sex drive
