After 20+ year career in senior leadership roles within Local Government, I took a leap of faith and left my profession. I felt disenfranchised, mentally exhausted and detached from my life. Taking a sabbatical to travel and explore my options, I was able to regularly attend Yoga classes; I thrived and one of my teachers suggested I do a YTT, so I did. In 2016 I completed my 200hrs RYT with Shakti Power Yoga (Valentina Candiani) in London, an Ashtanga based Power and Vinyasa training. Subsequently set up Yoganin4All, an overall lifestyle concept incorporating yoga fitness for the body/mind alongside services that provide opportunities to build relationships, enhance our contribution to the community, wider society and world we live – whether collectively or individually, striving to be ones best self.
As a child and adult I have always been very active and energetic (annoying), did lots of sports, dance and gymnastics, and was always interested in the body, its dynamics and the amazing potential it has to do almost anything. That has always stayed with me (big kid at heart), and partly why Yoga resonates and feels so familiar to me.
Yoga has been an anchor for me ever since. I suffered with sciatica and lower back issues throughout my adult life. I have also had ongoing experience with mental health both personally and with close relatives. The spiritual philosophies provide the tools to work through and build that relationship with the self; in a common sense, non-judgmental way that allows you to own your own journey. While the physical practice has eased my body and offers a much deeper connection and awareness of how the two (mind/body) are united. So I want to share my experience and practice with others so they can explore the benefits, while not taking it all too seriously, enjoying a fun yet challenging practice.
