Are you feeling stressed out, overwhelmed & in need of more self-care? Then it’s time to take a deep breath, slow down & take your power back. To celebrate Stress Awareness Week we invite you to join us for a cosy, calming and cleansing afternoon inspired by Hygge.
Liz and Maria will open the workshop with a candlelit Yang into Yin Yoga practise to help open the body and quiet the mind before we get cosy for the workshop. We will work with essential oils and discuss how aromatherapy can be used to help cultivate more calm in your life and create a relaxing sacred space. You will learn about different tools and techniques to help reduce stress and make life much more comfortable before settling in for a soothing Guided Yoga Nidra Meditation….
Before we settle under the covers and get cosy for meditation you will be taught how to make your very own scented eye pillow to use during our soothing Guided Yoga Nidra….expect to float out of the studio feeling relaxed, restored and ready for bed!
Good Karma included in every ticket, all profits will go to our charity of the year, Choose Love, a new movement in charity that provides emergency aid and long term solutions where they are most needed.
What is Hygge?
Regarded as the defining characteristic of Danish culture, hygge is a word that comprises a plethora of qualities with comfort at its heart. Going beyond cosiness, hygge creates a sense of contentment, well-being, harmony and safety. Hygge is informal, friendly and warm – you could even call it intimate, cultivating a feeling of being at home with a person or in a place, forging all around good vibes.
Maria Mel: The Scandi Yoga @thescandiyogi
The Scandi Yogi splits her time between London and Denmark, after growing up in Tokyo, Toronto and New York. Maria started practicing yoga with her mum in Japan as a teenager, and quickly discovered how the practice helped her cultivate joy and gratitude both on and off the mat. Through life’s ups and downs, her yoga practice in all its forms has helped transform difficult emotions into strength, resilience and courage, which makes her the perfect teacher to help you do the same. Bringing in concepts from her Danish roots such as ‘hygge’, Maria’s sessions are loving and compassionate and you’re sure to leave with a smile on your face!
Trained in Rocket, Ashtanga-based Vinyasa, Yin, Hatha and Mystical Yoga, Maria likes to teach classes that are playful, compassionate and empowering through dynamic and restorative sequences with a strong focus on self-observation.
Maria answered the call to become a yoga teacher after stepping off the corporate ladder in 2017, and embarked on a 200 hour training with Yoga Alliance-accredited School Yoga Institute at the Mystical Yoga Farm on the shores of Lake Atitlan, Guatemala during her solo travels through Central America. She has since then completed an Advanced 75-hour Rocket teacher training at Chroma Yoga in London with legacy Rocket practitioner, Amber Gean, as well as a 40-hour Yin Yoga & Mindfulness course with Sarah Lo at Triyoga.
In addition to more than a decade long practice, Maria has ample experience teaching students of all levels in a variety of settings, from rooftops and hotel terraces, to yoga studios, corporate meeting rooms and private living spaces.
Off the mat, Maria is a conscious PR consultant and a feminist and wellbeing journalist.
